Identify and Isolate a Sense: Nose
Location: Dundas St. West
The task at hand was to creatively represent and capture an isolated sense of a particular area. Our groups specific sense drawn was the ‘nose’ with a location of Dundas St. West.
After walking the area numerous times and going over multiple ideas the final concept would be as follows:

Groups Representation:

Our group took the nose sense and reproduce the top smells, that we felt dominated that particular location of Toronto, and created a “fragrance” line.
When contemplating the relevance of this project over-all, there was many concepts addressed. By the extension of a singular sense we(the participant) begins to gain an extra sensory & when presented in our particular form the knowledge can soon become intuitive in a way( an example perhaps may be the bottles labels).
The more dominant of ideals that grew in the further developments and understandings of this task would be found in Roy Ascott’s theories of telematic art though.
The following are a few quote’s taken from the novel, Roy AscottĀ Telematic Embrace: Visionary Theories of Art, Technology, and Consciousness, editied by Edward A.Shanken, to give examples of how strongly his concept was being addressed:
-“telematic art challenges the traditional…”
-“…expansion of perception and the of individual and communal information… transforming conventional notions of space, time, and subjectivity.”
Ascott’s vision of the classroom:

-the challenging of the convensional
-“..art possessed value only to the extent that it enabled a mental, conceptual shift…”
Stated following the reference of the pieces, Video Foget and Thesaurus:
In closing, when the process of this project was given light, a greater, important understanding became apparent. It was interesting to experience and see this emergence from our own work (as well as our classmates) and develop an ulternative angle to approach further studies in.
