October Works
Oct 19
A key thing that was figured out in this engineering project was in the legs & the use of three.
Talking Piano
Festo Robotic Dj
What we like about their projects:
The playfulness, curiosity; Their motive:
Look we have all this stuff and now lets do something really cool with it. Lets make… a penguin, a jelly fish, a dj.
There’s a sense of humour in all their pieces - alot of new media art tends to be cold and they intentionally break that boundary.
Good point in stressing the light heartedness: The people they are marketing their robotics for isnt us; not unless you have a few thousand dollar bills laying around.
Projection on building
How do you think they did this?
(1)Take a picture, (2)use a projector, (3)use a similar lens as the camera you took the picture with for the project, (4)make sure you marked where it was set, (5) then put it into a 3d programming, (6) Project.
Student Project: You can do this too!
What makes it effective?
Sound, colour…. ?

It is more than over due as to what it is our final projects should be developing into, in some degree or another. A pattern? I noticed in all thought processes an interest for the camera, screen & sound are prevalent.
Particular works that catch Sam’s eye for further advancements.
Note the use of camera in this work:

The following site was a place I found many other project examples of how other artists used todays technology (looking specifically at the use of screen again and people interaction) in the art setting.

While I would like to summarize these projects, there is quite an extensive look at artworks directed in this field, and merely do not have the time; but may further explored in project development.
Non-the-less I strongly encourage yourself to take a look:Here

(really like this one: Pulse)

Festo is a company that makes many types of robotics;”that will even saran wrap your sandwich, they make anything.” [D.Green]
It is important when making a piece of work to always keep in mind the aesthetics of the piece. How a thing looks will effect how people interact with a work therefore a “visually polished” work is quite important.
On a side note: these pieces rely on the Arduino’s power too! So in theory, you too could make robots like these … if you were a millionaire.
Robotic Penguins
Robotic Jellyfish
